We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with proven experience in microbial bioinformatics. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Sacco's bioinformatics pipelines. In addition, the position will involve selected wet-lab activities (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR) and the preparation of technical reports, contributing to an integrated and multidisciplinary research environment.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reproducible bioinformatics pipelines for microbial genomics and multi-omics data

  • Perform standard wet-lab activities when required

  • Contribute to assigned projects, including experimental design, data analysis, and report writing

  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare scientific presentations

  • Ensure accurate data entry and proper documentation in line with internal standards

SKILLS

  • Technical skills: Python, Bash, R, Linux/HPC environments, workflow managers (Snakemake, Nextflow), bioinformatics pipelines, multi-omics data analysis, molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR), applied statistics.
  • Soft skills: strong communication in English, analytical thinking, organisation, teamwork, proactivity, results-driven mindset, interest in innovation and emerging technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Biotechnology, Food Technology, Biology, or related disciplines

  • PhD and/or significant hands-on experience in microbial bioinformatics or related fields

  • Prior experience in molecular biology
